| This is a marginal Labour seat and we strongly urge
you to vote for Mike Wood (Labour), advise
your friends that you will be voting for Mike Wood and tell them why. In the 2001 General Election, Mike Wood won this seat with a majority of 5,064 (13%). However this is a volatile seat, with the BNP receiving a significant percentage of the vote in the 2004 local elections, and the Conservatives have this seat listed as their target number 114. Mike Wood has taken a principled stance against his own party leadership and the government on several key issues. These include the War in Iraq, Identity Cards, Top-up Fees, House of Lords Reform and Trial Without Jury. Although he opposed many of the bills relating to the highly controversial Anti-Terrorism legislation, he did follow the Labour Party line in nearly a third of the divisions in which he voted. On the basis of his performance on these key issues Mike Wood deserves your vote. For a more complete breakdown of Mike Wood's parliamentary performance on key issues, check out his voting record at the Public Whip. If you wish to take a more active role than this, then please head to the main site for campaigning material and information about forming/joining local action groups. |
