Final report: burning Tony Blair in effigy on Guy Fawkes night
Here, as promised, is the final report on our burning Tony Blair in effigy on Guy Fawkes night. The progress of the build and part of the burn itself was documented at Bloggerheads as follows:
October 26, 2005 - Burn Tony Blair in effigy this Guy Fawkes night
October 28, 2005 - The kindling takes shape
October 31, 2005 - Head finished. Body to follow.
November 2, 2005 - My, my... don't we look relaxed?
November 3, 2005 - Stop! ... Voodoo time!
November 5, 2005 - And at 7:10pm this evening... Tony Blair burns
November 6, 2005 - Can you guess what this is, boys and girls?
Concerns that the action would be booed or blocked were unfounded. Tony took his place in the guy line-up and everybody seemed quite happy about that. People laughed, people pointed... but no-one complained:

Here is a picture of Tony on the bonfire. Those arranging the guys saw fit to give him a place of honour above all other Guys:
We managed to capture this snippet of audio, where a man describes the children chanting 'Kill Tony Blair! Kill Tony Blair!"
Here, we seek to remind you that this was not an anti-war protest or Socialist Worker rally, but a typical bonfire night in a typical Surrey village... and on that note we would like to present you with this:
VIDEO FOOTAGE OF OUR BLAIR GUY BURNING
We missed the bit where Tony Blair collapsed into the flames and the crowd cheered, but this footage is equally telling.
As was reported here: When it came time to throw the kerosene torches that would ignite the bonfire, the majority of people aimed for Tony and often spoke of their intent before they did so.
This moment is the one we captured on video and a pronounced cheer can clearly be heard when a flaming torch hits our Blair Guy square in the head. We're 99% sure that those present were not cheering for accuracy alone.
